NGOs collaborate on Sex Discrimination Inquiry

The National Foundation for Australian Women welcomes the Inquiry into the effectiveness of the Commonwealth Sex Discrimination Act announced by the Government in June this year, and is collaborating with the Combined Community Legal Centres Group in order to provide resources that will help women's organisations make informed submissions to the Review. Paid maternity leave can benefit small business

12 June 2008

The paid maternity leave scheme recommended by NFAW to the Productivity Commission will put small business on an equal footing with large organisations. The proposed scheme provides all employees with 28 weeks paid parental leave and 4 weeks paid paternity leave paid through a fund made up of a government contribution and a pooled levy on all employers of less than 1 per cent of labour costs. NFAW submission to Paid Maternity Leave Enquiry

The NFAW submission to the Paid Maternity Leave inquiry recommends a system of six months paid maternity leave that replaces the income of mothers, and also provides four weeks paid paternity leave.  Under the NFAW model, employers would receive a grant to assist with the costs of recruitment and retraining.
